Just got back from a nice concert organized at the RIVAA gallery on Roosevelt Island, with the Swedish band The Apartment Years. I have no idea how they came up with this name for their group, but the music was excellent. You can have an idea about this event looking at the images I took.
Roosevelt Island
Today, Roosevelt Island hosted the 3rd edition of the annual Cherry Tree festival. I was there for just a few minutes at the end of the day, and here are a few images.
Few B&W images from Manhattan and Central Park.
Today, people on Roosevelt Island organized a peaceful rally against the local Public Safety Department, an organization which theoretically should provide a safe environment for island residents (more than 14000), which lately, under current leadership, displayed a pattern of brutality and abusive behavior against the very same people they are supposed to protect. Images of this rally below:
You probably saw the latest news about the huge snowstorm which hit the northeast states of the US. While some states were hit very hard (Connecticut for ex) , Manhattan and Roosevelt Island got only 8 inches of snow last night. I just took a walk outside and took those images.
I was asked by theWIRE to take pictures of a hearing in front of the New York City Planning Commission, regarding building of the new Cornell-Technion campus on Roosevelt Island. Several people presented their pros and cons about this very interesting project. If everything goes well and as planned, Manhattan will have a brand new, state of the art engineering school by 2017. For me it was a very interesting experience, as an amateur press photographer, which resulted in more “Manhattan Faces” images for my blog.
As promised in my previous post, here are fresh images from the dreassed rehearsal of Measure for Measure, opening on Roosevelt Island this Saturday, 8 pm. A few facts about the play could be found here.
