As I wrote here before (and as you saw in my pictures), New York is the city of street parades. One of the most spectacular is the Gay Pride Parade. Looks like this is a world wide phenomenon. Everybody, gay or not, has a lot of fun, under the careful watch of NYPD officers and politicians do not miss this great opportunity to gather some votes. This year’s parade is coming soon, but in the meantime please enjoy my images from last year’s event. Hopefully I’ll be back with 2012 images once current year’s edition takes place.

In 2011 Roosevelt Island Operating Corp started to organize a cherry tree festival, to celebrate spring and the beautiful cherry tree promenade on Roosevelt Island. It also honored the victims of the of the powerful earthquake and tsunami which struck Japan in 2011. It was a nice warm afternoon, combining spring beauty with Japanese traditions. See images below.
I was away for a short vacation in New England and was not able to post any new Manhattan images. To my surprise, hits kept coming, now totaling over 7500. That means that 10000 hits is just around the corner, which is really nice. It also makes me think that 100000 hits by the end of this year may not be out of reach after all. Therefore new Manhattan pictures will be coming , as regular as possible. As my recent trip produced lots of great pictures, I will not post them here since they are not Manhattan oriented. I might however start a new blog soon , for the rest of my images. What do you think? Any feedback will be much appreciated.
New York City is composed of 5 boroughs, four of them (Manhattan, Queens, Brooklyn, Staten Island) being islands and one (Bronx) part of mainland. Manhattan is surrounded by several small islands, one of them being Governor’s Island. After being used by the army for many years, and later deserted, it is now a beautiful park, as you can see from the images below.

A stroll at Manhattan Beach in Brooklyn gave me the opportunity to take the images below. As you can see , this is Jewish neighborhood. New York is a melting pot, with different neighborhoods all over. Visiting New York seems like visiting the entire world in a day .
Once the costumed parade ended, there was a display of antique cars to end a very fun day in Coney Island, Brooklyn.
My blog reached almost 5200 hits in less than two weeks. Those hits came from 20 countries on 6 continents. Which means (I hope) that you like Manhattan and of course my pictures. As a result of this I will continue to post new Manhattan images with the faces and places of New York City. Please leave me your comments and feedback.
Thank you
Because we live relatively close to Central Park, we go there often, and of course every-time I take pictures. This is how the park looked yesterday’s afternoon on a gorgeous day.

Have you heard about Mermaid Parade in Brooklyn? If not, take a look. New York is the city of parades and street fairs. Every weekend there is one somewhere in the city. Portions of streets are closed and the fun begins (not to mention extra pressure on traffic). And for a photography enthusiast there is a lot to do, and later share on his blog. So here it is, last year’s Mermaid Parade:
Roosevelt Island, one of the best kept secrets of Manhattan, is technically a part of it, but in the same time is totally independent and separate. Every year, different activities are organized here, one of them being Fall for Arts. Last year , this program included , among other things, a presentation of Oedipus Rex by an all male cast.
