Today, people on Roosevelt Island organized a peaceful rally against the local Public Safety Department, an organization which theoretically should provide a safe environment for island residents (more than 14000), which lately, under current leadership, displayed a pattern of brutality and abusive behavior against the very same people they are supposed to protect. That should’t be against the PSD per se, but against some of the PSD practices, or against a management style.
Law inforcement and citzen assistance must continue on Roosevelt Island.
We should remember that PSD is supposed to fulfill some functions which do not belong to NYPD, such as patrolling the buildings, assisting the many seniors and everyone else in emergency or in need, etc..
That should’t be against the PSD per se, but against some of the PSD practices, or against a management style.

In other areas, those functions are fulfilled, as I know, by voluntary citizens’ patrols/brigades/whatever… or a security detail like… the PSD.
