Fall for Arts on Roosevelt Island

Roosevelt Island, one of the best kept secrets of Manhattan, is technically a part of it, but in the same time is totally independent and separate. Every year, different activities are organized here, one of them being Fall for Arts. Last year , this program included , among other things, a presentation of Oedipus Rex by an all male cast.

Did you know that New York is also known as the “Big Apple”?

That’s its face below:

High Line Park

One of the newest parks in Manhattan is High Line Park . Somebody had an interesting idea to transform an old rusty railroad track into a place for recreation. You can see the result below.

One week

It’s been one week since I started this photo blog about Manhattan. I like doing it and I believe that my readers like it too.

So far, in just one week I received over 4100 hits from 15 countries all over the world. That is rewarding. In order to keep the hits coming I would like to ask all my visitors who appreciate and like my images to spread the word (the blog I mean) to all their friends, by email, Facebook, etc

And don’t forget to click on “Follow” button on the upper left corner, this way you will receive an email whenever I post new images from New York, the city where I lived for the last 18 years (which means I have an 18 years collection of Manhattan images, so they will be coming…older images are interesting as well).

Central Park in January

This is how an average New York winter in Central Park looks like. Occasionally New York may get lots of snow, but that is rare. Normally, that’s all we get…

Central Park in November

A visit to Manhattan cannot be complete without Central Park, so this post will give you an idea what to expect when you visit the park. It’s a lot of fun (for me) to watch, observe and take pictures. Or just relax, walk, skate, bike, ride, chat, listen, eat, rest, admire, etc. Come back again (to my blog) to see additional park images from different seasons of the year.

Sunday afternoon at the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

One Sunday afternoon early this spring, we took a walk through the city, ending at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Part of the “museum mile”  (as the name says, a mile of 5th Ave in Manhattan, full of museums) the  Metropolitan Museum of Art is one of the biggest museums of the world. Thousands of tourists and locals (like us) visit this every day. The place is huge, so it’s good idea to focus on a small section per visit, and come back for more next time.  So we settled on the Greek and Roman Art gallery, and the result of our visit can be seen below.

Apple fans – part II

Posted by mirceani on May 12, 2012

This is what happens whenever Apple launches a new product (iPad, iPhone, iPad, etc). Real Apple die-hard fans spend the night in front of the 5th ave store, hoping to be the first to get the new gadget. For me, this brings up memories from the communist Romania when people stayed in similar lines to buy food…

For the Apple fans

Posted by mirceani on May 11, 2012

You all know that Apple became a worldwide phenomenon. Personally I’m a Windows/PC fan, but that’s another story. New York city capitalized on this Apple mania by including among its top tourist attractions  two Apple stores, one on 5th Avenue near Central Park, and another recently opened inside the iconic Grand Central station building.

The 5th Ave store was recently renovated/redesigned, in the sense that the original outside small glass panels were redesigned and replaced with huge ones. I actually read in Steve Jobs biography that they made a special plant in China to accommodate those huge glass panels.
